Athletic Shoes Alone May Not Be Enough
Most people participating in athletic endeavors understand the need for proper footwear. Serious golfers buy top-rated golf shoes. A dedicated runner would never be caught wearing cheap sneakers. Even weekend-warrior soccer players splurge for an expensive pair of cleats.
Why is it they do this? Because they understand that proper support for the feet will minimize injury and improve performance by providing optimal balance and comfort. Unfortunately, the expensive, top brand name shoes may not actually be a benefit for you. Shoe manufacturers put the money and quality of their product in the shoe itself, not the insoles that come standard with shoes. A thorough inspection of even the nicest appearing insoles in even very expensive shoes will reveal nothing more than a flimsy thin insole designed strictly to cover the bottom of the shoe’s inside to hide stitching and glued seams. The difference in functionality and comfort by replacing those stock insoles with good quality insoles or orthotic arch supports will make the shoes incredibly more comfortable and serviceable for your feet.
That is not to say you should not buy quality, expensive athletic shoes. Just understand that these expensive shoes may not actually help provide the optimal support and comfort. Unfortunately, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all when it comes to supportive athletic shoes.
We all have different needs when it comes to arch support and comfort. Some of us have varying degrees of arch drop, while others have very high arches and need more support in certain areas of the foot. Regular athletic shoes, even the most expensive ones, can’t provide the proper support or cushioning for all feet. As such, they are usually designed for the middle of the road foot.
